Valerie: Mark Ronson
Valerie was originally recorded by the Liverpool based band The Zutons. The song was about a friend of theirs who had just been caught drink driving.
Mark Ronson later decided he wanted to cover it, because he wanted to keep the Liverpool connection. Ironically given the song was inspired by drink driving, he asked Amy Winehouse to guest on the song, who is famous for her drink and drug related problems.
At the end of the recording Ronson wanted to add a string section to the song, but Amy Winehouse was having none of it. In the end he had to sneakily record the string section without her knowing!
